4G data, is it really worth it?

4G data, is it really worth it?

We’ve all been hearing about the new phenomenon that is 4G, but what is so special about it? Simple; it offers the quickest broadband speeds on the market. To put that into context, the mobile network EE are advertising speeds of up to 5 times faster than 3G.

But what is the reality behind these claims? The truth is that fast broadband speeds can be reached in major cities such as London, Leeds and Glasgow. This would allow you to watch YouTube videos at a fraction of the time it usually takes on your mobile phones. With iconic figures such as Kevin Bacon celebrating 4G’s achievements, it’s no wonder that many of us have gone out and bought two-year 4G contracts.

4G, also known as 4G LTE, offers greater bandwidth which is a benefit to businesses with websites. Bandwidth relates to the transferring of data between a website and its visitors; a greater bandwidth would allow a higher amount of data transfers and vice versa. Websites that contain heavy data such as videos and images should therefore opt for data plans that offer greater bandwidths. Businesses could benefit significantly from adopting 4G into their digital business strategy.

4G has taken the world by storm with Germany, the USA and Japan being some of the first countries to implement 4G network services. Britain has been lagging behind these past few years (can you believe that Uzbekistan was earlier in on the game than us?) in the mobile technology world. As a creative digital marketing company, Xcite Digital are ecstatic over the news of 4G’s launching in new towns and cities in the near future.

The heavily marketed EE mobile network, owner of Orange UK and T-Mobile UK has been backed as the main provider of 4G in the UK at the moment. With all the big networks fighting over offering 4G services, we can say that this mobile technology is here to stay. We predict that 2013 will be the year when 4G will be the connection of choice.
